NHL Hockey Players

from Michigan High Schools

Last Updated: April 16, 2011

Please Note: This listing is comprised of players who attended high school in Michigan before playing hockey in the NHL. Hockey presents some interesting challenges as there are unique situations that sometimes exist. For example, Eric Lindros attended Farmington High School (1989-90 school year) during his days playing hockey for Detroit Compuware. Should he appear on this list? I'm not sure. Because of the perceived opportunities in the junior leagues, a large number of those listed never actually played hockey for their high school. In many cases, the school did not even have a hockey team. (For example: Dan Blysma).

Anyway, send me details, updates and corrections on what you know. I'll develop the list as we go.

When the actual high school is known, the letters HS follow the school name. Otherwise, the listing is the city of birth. When the senior year is an approximation, it is preceded by the letter "c." When the senior year is known, the "c." is eliminated.

All additions and/or corrections are welcomed and greatly appreciated. E-mail me with your changes

A number of other Michigan players were drafted but never played a game in the NHL:  Some high profile names include: Mike Usitalo from Calumet who was selected 84th in the 1972 draft by the Kings, Tom Kolioupoulos from Fraser in the 8th round by the Canadiens and Tom Allen from Ann Arbor Huron, selected in the 10th round of the 1982 draft by the Flyers, and Greg Rolston from Flint Powers Catholic who was selected in the 10th round by the Maple Leafs in 1983.

Thanks to Robert Erkkila for his assistance on getting this page started, and to Vanessa for additional details on her Grandpa Rudy.  And to Steve Hall for the update on Mike Donnelly.
